Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon Launched at ₹1.98 Lakh

Hero MotoCorp has launched the new Xtreme 250R Carbon in India with a lot of new features and hardware enhancements. The revamped motorcycle, priced at ₹1.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), features the upgraded with ride-by-wire technology, four riding modes, traction control, cruise control, and a bi-directional quickshifter. It'll also be given a fresh TFT instrument panel and an updated rear suspension system.

Hero's 250cc streetfighter on an existing engine platform gets several premium attributes with the Carbon variant.

What's New on Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon?

One of the top features of the new Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon is its ride-by-wire system, which allows for four riding modes – Rain, Road, Sport and Track. The motorcycle also has a riding mode calibration for the traction control system.

Other important additions include a bi-directional quickshifter, cruise control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). These features attempt to make things convenient and improve the rider's control and overall riding experience.

This is the old LCD instrument cluster replaced with a 4.2" TFT display from the Hero Xpulse 210. The upgrade will make the motorcycle more modern and boost its premium image.

An upgrade to the rear suspension has also been introduced with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD). This system includes a feature that automatically adapts the damping to the road inputs. It offers greater damping at higher frequencies and springiness at lower frequencies and longer compression, like speed breakers.

The engines have kept their essential characteristics unchanged.

The Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon still has the liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 249cc engine. It produces 30hp at 9,250rpm and 25.3Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm.

Torque is slightly up by 0.3Nm when compared to the previous standard model, but peak torque is now available 250rpm earlier in the rev range. The engine and overall performance characteristics are otherwise basically the same.

Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon Performance

The standard Hero Xtreme 250R has been doing a great job of picking up pace on its main competition, the KTM 250 Duke.

The Xtreme 250R could do 60kph in 3.15 seconds and 100kph in 8.22 seconds in comparative testing. The KTM 250 Duke took 3.44 seconds to go from 0 to 60kph and 8.50 seconds to reach 100kph.

The figures apply to the standard Xtreme 250R, not the Carbon version. The engine in the Carbon is largely the same as the one used on the standard model; however, Hero's 0-60kph time seems to be the same for both versions, so their performance is likely to be similar.

Price and Colour Options

The Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon is sold at an ex-showroom price of ₹1.98 lakh (Delhi), which is ₹14,000 dearer than the standard Xtreme 250R. The standard model was also up in price by ₹11,000 with the launch of the Carbon variant.

The Carbon is less costly than KTM's 250 Duke priced at ₹2.28 lakh, despite the added extras.

The motorcycle comes in three color varieties – Carbon Red, Carbon Black and Carbon White. It also comes with special graphics and alloy wheels in coloured finishes, which are not seen on the standard model.

Conclusion

Hero MotoCorp has concentrated on enhancing technology, rider assistance and suspension performance, rather than making significant changes to the engine with the Xtreme 250R Carbon. The new motorcycle is equipped with ride modes, traction control, cruise control, a quickshifter, and a TFT display, making it a more feature-packed 250cc offering.

It would also be attractive to those seeking a modern sporty streetfighter that could hold a price against the KTM 250 Duke.
