MG Astor Facelift
The MG Motor Astor Facelift has been revealed at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), where the popular SUV is set to get a big facelift. The facelift features a new interior, upgraded hybrid powertrain and some upgraded features that could make it a viable option in the mid-size SUV market in India.
The new model, known as the MG ZS Hybrid worldwide, is likely to take the place of or be updated in the near future to the existing Astor range.
Conventional Powertrains are on the back burner as a strong Hybrid Powertrain takes centre stage.
The most significant new addition to the Astor Facelift is the addition of a powerful hybrid powertrain, which is not available in the Indian market for MG vehicles.
The four-cylinder petrol engine's capacity is 1.5 litres, and it is mated to an electric motor and battery pack. The systems give a total of 211 bhp combined. The electric motor has 250 Nm of torque, and the petrol engine has 128 Nm.
The hybrid system will enable MG to achieve a fuel efficiency of more than 25 kmpl, making it one of the most efficient SUVs in its segment. Should it be introduced in India, it will be competing with hybrid versions like Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid and Honda City e: HEV.
Refreshed Cabin with Premium Upgrades
The Astor Facelift is getting an all-new interior design that focuses on comfort and technology.
The new dashboard layout includes larger digital displays, new upholstery and new cabin materials. The overall interior styling of MG has also been updated, making the SUV look more premium and offering more space, especially to rear seat passengers.
Though the cabin refreshes, the SUV still has a long list of high-end features.
These are some of the expected features:
- Dual digital screens
- Automatic climate control
- Level 2 ADAS
- Ambient lighting
- LED lighting package
- Connected car technology
- Premium upholstery
Give MG an Early Advantage, is it possible?
The hybrid SUV market in India is still nascent and has few SUV makers with solid hybrid technology.
In case MG launches the Astor Hybrid in India before the other competitors like Mahindra, Tata Motors, Hyundai and Kia, the brand may be able to create a niche for itself in the market.
Given that fuel efficiency is one of the primary considerations for Indian buyers, the hybrid SUV with a performance of more than 25 kmpl may help improve MG's competitiveness.
India Launch Expectations
The India launch date for the Astor Facelift is not officially confirmed yet, but it's clear that the reworked vehicle is getting closer to production for export markets, as it was displayed at the Indonesia Motor Show.
With the rising popularity of hybrid cars in India, the Astor Facelift could be a significant addition to MG's lineup, offering a competitive price point.
Conclusion
The MG Astor Facelift offers substantial improvements and benefits through its powerful hybrid drivetrain, refreshed interior and sophisticated technology options. The upgraded SUV might enhance MG's SUV lineup in India's competitive mid-size SUV segment while featuring claimed fuel efficiency of more than 25 kmpl and Level 2 ADAS as well as a revamped interior.
The Astor Hybrid, if launched in India, would find buyers interested in a feature-packed, fuel-saving option to petrol SUVs.
