Renault Duster Hybrid: Performance, Mileage and Ride Comfort Review
Renault has unveiled the Duster Hybrid in India, which has been designed to deliver a potent blend of performance, fuel economy and driving pleasure to the mid-size SUV class. The new hybrid SUV is expected to help Renault's standing in India, and is priced at ₹16.99 lakh to ₹19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Duster Hybrid is equipped with an advanced hybrid powertrain, has impressive claimed mileage, and the suspension has been upgraded – it could be an important part of the brand's comeback programme.
The new-generation Duster is over six months old before the hybrid model is released. The release fills a significant void in the lineup, especially for those seeking improved fuel economy without sacrificing performance.
Renault Duster Hybrid Overview of price and power
The Renault Duster Hybrid is offered in four variants, namely Evolution and Emotion, from ₹16.99 lakh to ₹19.49 lakh. Equipped with Renault's strong hybrid technology, a 1.4kWh battery, and a four-cylinder 1.8L petrol engine paired with electric motors.
Combined, the powertrain delivers 160hp and is one of the most powerful hybrid powertrains in its class. Renault's claimed fuel efficiency is 29 km/l - ahead of a number of established hybrid rivals.
The hybrid system can be operated in the electric-only mode, series-hybrid mode and parallel-hybrid mode. It activates various working modes with its intelligent control system to maximise efficiency. The SUV also has electric-assisted forward and reverse capabilities, which help to provide a quieter ride in traffic.
Performance and Driving Experience
The Duster Hybrid's biggest feature is its performance. According to Renault, the time to accelerate from 0- 100 km/h is about 9.6 seconds. The electric motor provides immediate torque, making the SUV quick to get going from a standstill and to react quickly when it's time to pass.
Renault's E-Tech transmission is more like a multi-mode gearbox with varying ratios for the petrol engine and primary electric motor, compared to traditional hybrid units equipped with an e-CVT. This leads to a more interesting driving experience and noticeable gear changes, along with smoother power delivery.
The City SUV can drive in electric mode for a long time in city traffic, depending on the conditions and battery charge. On the highway, the petrol engine can power the vehicle directly, and the electric engine accelerates the vehicle. The blend is designed to provide high performance with efficiency on the highway.
Ride Comfort, Handling and Design
Renault has reconfigured the suspension to make space for the extra weight of the hybrid system. The Duster Hybrid is equipped with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) dampers that absorb minor road imperfections while keeping the body under control when encountering bigger ones. The SUV is also equipped with a precision steering system, enhanced high-speed stability and a pleasant ride, making it an ideal choice for city driving and extended trips. The exterior styling is largely unchanged from the petrol-powered Duster, but with hybrid branding and an illuminated Duster logo at the front. Inside, the hybrid features a lighter Dune Brown leatherette upholstery and a lighter headliner for an open look to the cabin. There are a few drawbacks to this practice, however. Boot space is good, but not best-in-class, while the hybrid has 372 litres of boot space thanks to the battery, which is less than the 518 litres found on the petrol models. The Duster Hybrid has a number of missing features, and they are significant, such as a 360-degree camera, ADAS and an auto-dimming mirror. There's no spare wheel as standard, but it's available as an optional extra. The Renault also comes with a seven-year warranty, and buyers can also rely on the eight-year warranty for the battery pack. In sum, the Renault Duster Hybrid has good performance, guaranteed efficiency of 29 kmpl, and exceptional ride quality at a competitive price. While it does have a few drawbacks due to its smaller boot and limited features, it is a great choice for anyone who wants a high-performance, fuel-efficient mid-size SUV. The Duster Hybrid may be a big stride towards Renault's bid to catch the eye in the fiercely competitive Indian SUV segment.Features and Verdict
